A learning Experiance

I spent much of my time searching for all this information that wasn’t there. Similarly, with the images, I wasted so much time looking for higher quality photos that just didn’t exist. Looking back on it, this wasted time took so much out of the actual design process. I wanted to do so much more, but by the time I had what I could, it was already too late. I’d love to redo this project one day with updated information or even fictional fighters so that I can add my own.

I look back at it as a project that taught me time management and patience when it comes to researching a topic. It’s not that bad, though, because I did get to experiment with large images and how text can be used on them. This is something I’ve always loved inbooklets and text and something I want to work with in projects going forward.

Process

After the posters, I had my colors and subject but not my text. I spent some time finding fighters, their pictures, and some basic information. I used free image sites for many of the large images and found much of the fighters’ photos and information on their respective websites or social media. I came to find that this was easy for some but difficult for others.

My biggest issue with this whole series of projects was finding the right photos and content. Because I picked suck a small even many of the fighters only had one low quality photo, or a basic bio on their websites. I enjoyed the theme and aesthetic of the event I picked, but it was like pulling teeth when I tried to get the necessary info to fill up the page.

Additional Note

I feel like text and print scares me, and I’m relying too much on blocks of text over blocks of color. Next project I’m going to make it a point to work completely differently and challenge myself. One thing that I think contributes to this problem is that it’s harder to make a booklet from scratch than it is to make a logo. This leads me to make more personal projects about branding rather than text. Which is fine but I feel like my print skills have fallen behind a bit. So next time I’ll switch it up. Maybe expect to see some personal projects about booklets soon?
